A traditional pair of jeans has a tiny pocket just above the front pocket. What was originally supposed to be kept in the tiny pocket?
Have you ever wondered why jeans usually have a tiny pocket above the front one? Now it seems to be just a decorative element, but when blue jeans were invented, this small pocket served a pure practical function.
As you know, at the very beginning of the blue jeans history, they were bought and worn mostly by cowboys and miners. Their creators Jacob W. Davis and Levi Strauss added a small pocket so that these people could safely keep their pocket watches while working. At that time the pocket was a bit larger than it is today.

It was always called a fob pocket for a fob watch my grandfather used to wear one in later years my husband used it for coins but still referred to it as a fob pocket

I knew about pocket watches but felt that the pockets were too small. I was right -- we are told that the mini-pocket WAS originally roomier than on today's jeans. I incorrectly guessed penknife, but I don't mind.

It’s the first thing I check when buying jeans as a professional guitarist / dealer I am in and out all day and my favourite pick lives there. Hugo Boss are the best. Levi’s can be ok, depends where they’re made though.
