As of 2019, where is the legendary China Fleet Club located?

British Forces Overseas Hong Kong comprised the elements of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force for much of last century.

The Governor of Hong Kong also assumed the position of the Commander-in-chief of the forces and the Commander British Forces in Hong Kong took charge of the daily deployment of the troops. Much of the British military left Hong Kong prior to the handover in 1997.

A proposal to build the China Fleet Country Club in Saltash, Cornwall was put to the Hong Kong sailors committee and Trustees. The feasibility study was approved by the Hong Kong sailors committee, the land was purchased and design of the complex began in the late 80s in England to anticipate the closing of the original club in Hong Kong.

The new China Fleet Country Club was officially opened on June 1st 1991 along with it’s prestigious golf course. On 30th November 1992 the Hong Kong China Fleet Club closed its doors for the last time ready for the Chinese to takeover Hong Kong and move to the United Kingdom.

The China Fleet Country Club goes from strength to strength, opening its doors to civilians in 1994, to constantly extending and refurbishing year on year. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016 by receiving a visit by Princess Anne the club was rededicated to commemorate this event.

Set in 180 acres of exquisite countryside, on the cusp of Devon and Cornwall, China Fleet is one of the South West’s leading country clubs.

My uncle was the man who originally purchased the original China Fleet Club, in HK. It was an interesting building and I visited it a few times, as did my husband - he as a sailor and me as a guest.

The question asked about the 'China Fleet Club'. No mention of Country Club! I had been to the original in Hong Kong.

I was somewhat confused by the question and by the number of people who also selected Shanghai as the answer, I don't think I was alone. Perhaps it's too targeted at the small number of people in England. That would mean that few other people knew about the club and its tradition.
