Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was the 33rd president of the United States (1945 to 1953), succeeding upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt after serving as vice president. (The middle initial "S" does not stand for a name but honours his grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young.) While Truman was generally clean-shaven, he did briefly sport a moustache and goatee beard while holidaying in Key West, Florida, after the 1948 presidential election, the last president to have facial hair.

William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was the 27th president of the U.S. (1909–1913) and its 10th chief justice (1921–1930), the only man to serve as both U.S. president and Supreme Court chief justice. He was many things, an intellectual, a jurist, a wrestler at Yale, a reformer, a peace activist, a baseball enthusiast and the last president to have facial hair (a moustache) during the whole of his tenure of the presidency. Unfortunately, ‘Big Bill’ Taft (he weighed in at 350 lbs) is best remembered for a story that is not true - as the president who was so large that he got stuck in the White House bathtub.

Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833 – March 13, 1901) was a politician and lawyer who served as the 23rd president of the U.S. (1889 to 1893). He was the last president to have both a beard and moustache during his period in office.

Today, facial hair on presidential candidates is thought to impact negatively with voters.
