As of 2020, the geothermal geyser known as Old Faithful erupts approximately how many times each day?
Arguably the world's most famous geyser, Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States of America, currently erupts around 16 times a day.
These eruptions are predicted with a 90 percent confidence rate, within a 10 minute variation, and are based on the duration and height of the previous eruption. It has erupted every 44 minutes to two hours since 2000.
Old Faithful geyser was named for its frequent and predictable eruptions, which number more than a million since Yellowstone became the world's first national park in 1872. It is one of nearly 500 geysers located within the park. The reliability of Old Faithful can be attributed to the fact that it is not connected to any thermal features of the park's Upper Geyser Basin like other neighboring geysers.
Yellowstone National Park normally brings in upwards of 4 million visitors a year, and securing a good view of the geyser's cone can be challenging, even though the erupting steam can average 44 metres (145 ft) into the air for all to see.
