The famed person who appeared on the best-selling U.S. commemorative postage stamp was Elvis Presley (1935 - 1977). Other than the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and several US Presidents, Elvis Presley, the singer, guitarist, musician, and actor (one of the first true stars of rock-and-roll), is the only US national who has been the subject of two commemorative stamps by the USPS, respectively 1993 and 2015.

The first stamp was issued in 1993. The time frame would have fallen on Elvis’s 58th birthday. After the stamp was issued, it has gone on to become the bestselling commemorative stamp in U.S. history. Elvis was put on a 1st-class stamp, and for the first time, the public was allowed to vote on the design. The choices were “young Elvis” and an older, “Vegas” Elvis. More than a million people voted and the young Elvis won.

Next, the Elvis Presley Forever postage stamp became a part of the Music Icons series. It features Presley in a 1955 black and white photography. In the bottom left corner, between the words "Forever" and "USA", is a small gold crown, a nod to Presley's nickname, 'The King of Rock and Roll'.
