Successive monarchs of the Wangchuck dynasty since 1907 are credited for paving the way for Bhutan's transition to democracy. In July 2008, the first parliament of Bhutan referred to the country as a 'democratic constitutional monarchy', reposing authority in the King as "the head of the state, protector of all religions, and Supreme Commander-in-chief of the forces and the militia". The young King reign works for higher standards in education, business, civil service, trade cooperation and collaboration in hydropower projects for the development of the economy of Bhutan.
