Michael Caine starred in the 1965 film "The Ipcress File". This film as of 2022 hasn't been remade into a newer movie. Several sequels to the original have been made. They include: "Funeral in Berlin" (1966), "Billion Dollar Brain" (1967), decades later Harry Alan Towers's "Bullet to Beijing" (1995), and "Midnight in Saint Petersburg" (1996).

Besides starring Caine as Harry Palmer, it features Guy Doleman as Colonel Ross, Nigel Green as Major Dalby, Sue Lloyd as Jean Courtney, and Gordon Jackson as Jock Carswell. Film production was handled by Lowndes Productions and Steven S.A. with cinematography by Otto Heller, music by John Barry, and editing by Peter R. Hunt.

The plot of the film focuses on a kidnapped scientist called Radcliffe. He is taken from a train; his security escort is killed. Palmer, a British Army sergeant with a criminal past, working for a Ministry of Defense organization, is summoned by his superior Colonel Ross. Palmer is transferred to a section headed by Major Dalby. He must then deal with bureaucracy while investigating the kidnapping.

The film became very popular and received a BAFTA award for the Best British film. In 1999, it was ranked No. 59 on the BFI list of the 100 best British films of the 20th century.
