The Jatayu Earth Center in India is home to the world's largest bird sculpture, which represents the mythological bird Jatayu from the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Jatayu was a demigod who fought valiantly but was unable to save Site, the wife of Lord Rama, from being kidnapped by the demon king Ravana. The Jatayu sculpture is massive, standing at 200 feet long and 70 feet high, and is part of an adventure park that offers various activities such as hiking, exploring the sculpture, and visiting a museum dedicated to the myth of Jatayu.

In the story, Jatayu was very old, and the demon god Ravana was able to defeat him by clipping his wings. Jatayu then fell out of the sky onto the rock in Chadayamangalam.

As the god Rama and his younger brother, Lakshmana searched for Sita, they came across stricken and dying Jatayu. As he lay there dying, Jatayu informed them of the battle with Ravana. Rama went on to invade the land of Ravana, the demon king, and rescue his wife.
