As of 2025, 21 states in the United States have the distinction of being the birthplace of a president. Among these states, Virginia is the birthplace of most presidents. There are eight in total, including George Washington (1732-1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826), James Madison (1751 – 1836), James Monroe (1758 - 1831), William Harrison (1773 – 1841), Zachary Taylor (1784 – 1850), John Tyler (1790 – 1862), and Woodrow Wilson (1856 – 1924).

Seven presidents were born in Ohio, they are: Ulysses Grant (1822 – 1885), Rutherford Hayes (1822 – 1893), James Garfield (1831 – 1881), Benjamin Harrison (1833 – 1901), William McKinley (1843 – 1901), William Taft (1857 – 1930), and Warren Harding (1865 – 1923).

New York is the birthplace of five presidents including Martin Van Buren (1782-1862), Millard Fillmore (1800- 1874), Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919), Franklin Roosevelt (1882 – 1945), and Donald Trump (b. 1946).

Four presidents were born in Massachusetts, they are: John Adams (1735 – 1826), John Quincy Adams (1767 – 1848), John Kennedy (1917 – 1963), and George H.W. Bush (1924 – 2018).
