Black is the darkest color, the result of the absence of or complete absorption of light. As white is the achromatic color of maximum lightness, black presents its complete antagonist. Black, as well as grey, also belongs to the achromatic colors, which are colors without any hue.

Black as a color has a rich history. It was one of the first colors used by artists in neolithic cave paintings. The royalty and government officials of the 14th century wore black clothes, which became their mark of distinction. It was the color worn by English romantic poets, businessmen and statesmen in the 19th century. In the 20th century black became an haute couture color.

It's also often associated with mourning and death, and such an association comes from the times of the Roman Empire. Many people nowadays, according to different surveys, consider black a color of secrets, magic, evil, death and also elegance.
