Chickens float like ducks and instinctively know how to swim.
Although they do not particularly like water, chickens are able to swim. They can float and paddle just like a duck and swim their way to safety. No need for the webbed feet, they are capable swimming creatures all the same. Many try to argue that there is no way that this is possible, but it has been proven time and again, that these animals can swim if necessary.

I and my chicken keeping neighbour have a canal at the bottom of our gardens. Believe me his chickens can't swim! I have seen them drown.

Just plain wrong! Chickens don't have webbed feet and even more important, their feather structure is different so they just get weighted down and they DROWN! Does anyone check these FACTS??

Wrong answer. Ducks float forever, chicken feathers don't have oil and get water logged and they drown.

No they can swim but NOT just like ducks. Plus their feathers will quickly become waterlogged and they sink.

My daughter raises chickens and they can not swim. The feathers fill with water and they drown. I missed this question, I called my daughter first, she said answer would be false.

I believe the answer is false based on the way the question is worded. Chickens don't"float like ducks, because ducks have oil on their feathers which makes this possible. Chickens do not, and when their feathers are saturated, they sink to the bottom and drown. I want the 5 points added to my total!

I grew up around chickens, and had no water available to experiment. The only water we ever put them in was boiling water, AFTER my dad killed them. I guess it was easier to pluck the feathers that way. Plus, they didn't even try to swim away!

honini, If they are in water and their feet are not able to touch the bottom, then it would be difficult for them, so putting them in a bucket with water of course they're known to drown. People say sheep are dumb, chickens are certainly dumber

I very rarely scroll down to read many comments, let alone, leave a comment, but I had to see if anyone else thought that you were wrong. As far as I can tell, pretty much everyone does! I also agree with all of those that believe we should get our points back! I mean you have drawn us into this competition where points determine where we rank! I feel that scrambling in a panic, fighting for your life to get to the nearest safe place you can,1 foot away, before you drown, shouldn't be classified as swimming, but as instinct self survival, Right? I mean, For instance... Let's say I'm at the top of a tree, and the branch that I'm on breaks. I, in a panic, fighting for my life, start to flail my arms, hoping to grab anything I can to stop myself from plummeting to the ground. Fortunately for me, I somehow manage to grasp onto the very next branch securing myself from certain death,1 foot below! Would you classify that as I flew down 1 foot? Scrambling or swimming? Flying or falling? No offense, but I don't believe my (or any) gym coach would have ever passed a student in swimming for splashing their way, without drowning, to the edge of the pool, 1 foot away? Once again, Just sayin'

I didn't think that chickens could swim, and certainly not like ducks, but since EVERY T/F answer is True, that's what I picked. I suppose if you tossed a chicken into the water, it would do its best to swim out, but I can't imagine it would be successful for long.

Well, unfortunately, chickens don't swim. First of all, they don't have waterproof feathers, so they can get wet - and heavy - pretty fast. Second, chickens don't have flippers; although they may float for short periods of time, they can drown very fast if they panic and they're known to drown in buckets of water. www.quora.com

I would like to see a video where this is proven. My chickens would never float they would sink straight to the bottom. This answer should have been false. Post the video.
