The creators of the 1934 movie "Tarzan and His Mate" had to film three different versions of the infamous nude swimming scene, as different censorship laws took effect in different US states. Each state was able to choose the version of the scene which best conformed to its laws. In the end, all three versions were removed from the film, as a number of conservative religious groups were protesting.

But Maureen O'Sullivan never appeared as Jane in the nude scenes. She was doubled by Josephine McKim, a professional swimmer and a member of the US Olympic Swim Team.
