Apples are a deciduous variety of fruits which grow on trees in mostly temperate regions around the world. The apple originated in Central Asia and then spread all over the world.

In terms of production, the top three producing countries in the world are China, United States and Poland with digress reported for the 2019/2020 growing season.

The figures for apple production lists China at 44,448,575 tons (2,383,905 hectare).

The second largest producer of apples is the United States with 4,649,323 tons (130,552 hectares). About 70% of the apples in the United States are produced in the state of Washington, located in the northwestern corner of the United States.

Poland ranks third in production with 3,604,271 tons (177,203 hectares) of apples in the year 2016.

Turkey is fourth, India is fifth, followed by Iran in sixth place for annual production during the same growing season.
