"Yellow Sky"(1948), a western about an elderly prospector & his feisty granddaughter (Anne Baxter), set in a desolate western town, has them fending off a gang of bad guys including, surprise, Gregory Peck &, no surprise, Richard Widmark. It has evocative monochrome photography by Joseph MacDonald, a taut storyline. Although not well remembered, it a classic.The Writers Guild of America gave producer/co-writer Lamar Trotti & co-writer W. R. Burnett the award for “Best Written American Western” of 1949.
