Hitler got his strange mustache so he wouldn't get gassed in WW1. True or False?
A previously unpublished essay by a writer who served alongside Hitler in the First World War trenches reveals that the future Führer was only obeying orders when he shaped his moustache into its tightly-clipped style. He was instructed to do so in order that it would fit under the respirator masks, introduced in response to British mustard gas attacks. No one knew back then it would become a such a recognizable distinguishing feature!

"So he wouldn't get gassed" and "so his gas mask would fit" are two completely different things. Shaving his moustache could in no way prevent Hitler from being gassed; it could only allow his gas mask to fit properly and protect him when he WAS gassed. Improper wording of the question leading to incorrect answer.

If it were because of orders then the vast majority of images of WW I German soldiers with moustaches would have the same type of moustaches. This is clearly not the case. Your question and and claimed correct answer is an example of rumor being claimed as fact. That style of moustache also worn by Charlie Chaplin and last I knew he was not in the trenches.
