How many astrological signs are there?

In Western astrology, astrological signs are the twelve 30° sectors of the ecliptic, starting at the vernal equinox (one of the intersections of the ecliptic with the celestial equator), also known as the First Point of Aries. The order of the astrological signs is Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Each sector is named for a constellation it passes through.

The concept of the zodiac originated in Babylonian astrology and was later influenced by Hellenistic culture. According to astrology, celestial phenomena relate to human activity on the principle of "as above, so below", so that the signs are held to represent characteristic modes of expression.

There are actually 13 astrological signs. Ophiuchus is joined in legend and in the sky to the constellation of the Serpent

This question should specify in which astrological system. In the western, European world it is 12. In other cultures it is a different number.

The correct answer should be 13. Here is some info: There are, in fact, 13 signs of the zodiac, not 12 like originally detailed by the ancient Babylonians more than 3,000 years ago. According to NASA, when the Babylonians created the zodiac, they had already created a 12-month calendar that was based on the phases of the moon.
