How many legs are visible on the Isle Of Man flag?

"Whichever way you throw us, we always land on our feet".

The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea, off the coast of the United Kingdom (which is responsible for this small island). Its capital city is Douglas.

As you might have already guessed, the island is located between the UK and Ireland. The island has no important bodies of water: its total area is about 600 km². Apart from the main island, it also includes some smaller ones.

A very unsatisfying explanation. Aside from the answer that the flag has 3 legs, there was no further insights into the meaning or derivation of the flag. For those curious enough, check this link: http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/history/legs.htm This explanation could have been made better by the gleaning of some information from this one article.

The three running legs are similar to the flag of Sicily except that in the center is a Medusa and wheat extending from her head as well. It is a symbol of Sicily known as a Trinacria (Greek for 3pointed). The shape of the island.

Steve McVey, No, it isn't. I knew the answer, having seen the flag several times before. I researched the flag because the answer was so unsatisfying to me. Why are you so cynical and quick to accuse others of cheating? Is it because that's what you'd do?

I believe that if weather conditions are okay, you can see England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales from the IoM.

As someone who lived in one of the other offshore British Islands - Jersey - we always looked down our noses at the Manxmen but they looked down their noses at us! I used to make a number of presentations to largely US audiences on offshore financial matters and one of my fellow speakers Colin came from Man. We obviously agreed that we wouldn't "slag" each other off but the third major Island Guernsey was fair game for both of us!! Sadly Colin passed away 2 years ago on the 23rd December

"We're no pushover!" i got it wrong because I was thinking of the island's crest, where one of the legs is (I think) hidden. The island's not that small - it's easy enough to get lost in the mist if you don't take a compass when you go walking in the Snaefell area - I've done it. Shame on me!

Interesting place. Still has horse drawn trams in use. Fantastic electric interurban. Mountain railway and steam railway. Amazing that so many did not know the three legs of Man. Ancient parliament too - the Tynwald.
