How many octaves are on the standard modern piano?
The modern piano has seven octaves. The standard for modern pianos is 88 keys, which includes 52 white and 36 black keys. This design offers a vast range of musical potential for players. With 88 keys on a piano, it features 7 full octaves plus three notes below the lowest C.
There are exceptions, with some having fewer octaves and some having more but these aren't considered standard pianos.
An octave is a series of eight notes occupying the interval between (and including) two notes, one having twice or half the frequency of vibration of the other. For example, the notes: G, A, B, C, D, E, F, G represent an octave, sharps and flats are included.
