Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest of five hurricanes that happened in the history of the United Sates. Hurricane Katrina was the result of the 2005 hurricane season. It first started forming on August 23 and it disappeared on August 30, 2005. The areas that affected Hurricane Katrina were Cuba, Bahamas, South Florida, Louisiana (especially New Orleans), Mississippi and a greater part of eastern North America.

The damage Katrina cost in the number of human deaths was very great. It's held that at least 1245 people died in the hurricane and about 100 billion dollars worth of property damages occurred. Most of the deaths happen in the State of Louisiana with over 1,500. The State of Mississippi had over 230 deaths. More than half of these victims were senior citizens.
