"Scrabble" is a largely popular word-making tabletop game, originally created by Alfred Mosher Butts in 1938. Its license changed owners several times since then, but today it is owned and manufactured by "Hasbro, Inc.".

The game features a 15x15 grid of cells, on which 2-4 players take turns in creating interconnected words out of tiles with different point values. Commonly used letters, such as vowels, are worth only 1 point, while the less common letters are worth considerably more.

According to moneyinc.com, "Scrabble" is the 5th most selling board game in the world, outsold only by Monopoly, Backgammon, Checkers and Chess; it has sold more than 150 million sets worldwide, in 121 countries and 30 languages. It is approximated that roughly one-third of American and half of British homes own a Scrabble set.

The game's success has led to the release of several different spinoffs of the game, the publication of several books, and two TV game shows; "Scrabble" and "Scrabble Showdown".
