Massachusetts became the 6th state of the U.S. on the 6th of February 1788.

Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd state of the United States on the 11th of May 1888.

Mississippi became a state on the 10th of December 1817 (20th state).

Missouri became the 24th state on the 10th of August 1821. The state is named after the Missouri tribe whose name means "town of the large canoes."

Montana was granted statehood on the 8th of November 1889, making it the 41st state. State's name is from the Spanish word "Montana" meaning mountain.

Michigan on the 26th of January 1837 became the 26th state. The state's name originated from the Ojibwa Indian word "misshikana" meaning "great water," referring to the great lakes.

Maryland became the 7th state on the 28th of April 1788. The state's name was to honor Henrietta Maria, the wife of England's King Charles the First.

Maine on the 15th of March 1820 was admitted to statehood as the 23rd state. The state's name is assumed to be a reference to the state region being mainland, different from the many surrounding islands.
