The Iguazu River rises near the heart of the city of Curitiba. For most of its course, the river flows through Brazil; however, most of the Iguazu Falls are on the Argentine side in the Argentine province of Misiones. Iguazu Falls is considered one of the world’s most spectacular and impressive waterfalls, clearly straddling the border between Argentina and the Brazilian state of Paraná in South America.

With more than 275 individual cascades, Iguazu Falls is actually the biggest waterfall system in the world. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the border between Argentina and Brazil. The closest comparison to Iguazu Falls is probably Niagara Falls in Canada and the United States, although Iguazu Falls is bigger than Niagara by most measurements.

This spectacular waterfall has been made into a national park in Argentina and Brazil, and both sides of the falls prove to be worth a visit since they offer different viewing opportunities. It usually takes a couple of days to see the best highlights of Iguazu, although many people often take such longer, at least a week.
