In ancient Rome runaway slaves were marked with "FUG" on their foreheads.

In Rome a runaway slave could not legally be the object of sale. A class of persons called Fugitivarii made it their business to recover runaway slaves. The rights of the master over the slave were in no way affected by his running away. Runaway slaves were branded or tattooed on the forehead with letters denoting the slave as a runaway (FUG) which was an abbreviation of "fugitivus," meaning "runaway".

I will need to research more. If the runways were not legally be an object of the state, were they then free or then still owned by the "master"? If the rights of the master were not affected how could the Fugitvarii recover then? Were the Fugitvarii then their masters? Incomplete info.

Elsa Paterson, Cheryl Perkins, I also agree. I tried to put in a question the answer to which was false but it wasn't accepted because people would think it was true because they usually were!

Cheryl Perkins, I agree. They're always true. I'm not sure why that is. I consider them a fact, not a question. I put up with them, but it's getting ridiculous. I hope at some point we're blindsided by a False. It would make things way more interesting.
