In Enid Blyton’s “Famous Five” books, who were the female members of the group?
Written in the 1940s and 1950s, the ‘Famous Five’ series followed the adventures of a group of young children during their summer holidays from their respective boarding schools. They were set in parts of rural England and Wales, usually in the countryside or at the coast and would involve escapades such as catching criminals or finding hidden treasure. The locations allowed the children to discover the magic of country cottages, the sea shore and for them to enjoy activities such as hiking, swimming and relaxing in the the sunshine.
Julian is the eldest of the five, cousin to George (short for Georgina) and elder brother to Dick and Anne. Timmy is George’s dog.
Author Enid Blyton intended to write six or eight books, the first being “Five on a Treasure Island” in 1942, but due to the overwhelming success of the series, she continued to write a total of twenty one.
