Daisy Ridley (born 1992) shot to fame by starring as Rey, the leading female in the 2015 'Star Wars' film 'The Force Awakens'. She has since starred in two more films in the franchise, 'The Last Jedi' (2017) and 'The Rise of Skywalker' (2019).

Rey is a lone scavenger from the planet Jakku, whose life is changed by her decision to help a droid called BB-8. This choice sets her on a journey to discover the 'Force' within her, and she seeks out Jedi Master Luke Skywalker for training. Despite her commitment to the Jedi Order and the light side of the 'Force', Rey feels the pull to the dark side. This is triggered by her anger and inadvisable relationship with Ben Solo, a fallen Jedi whom she knows as the dark warrior Kylo Ren.

The decision to debut a new star as the face of the 'Star Wars' franchise was made by the director J.J. Abrams, who wished to replicate the success of George Lucas' choice to cast relatively unknown actors in the first 'Star Wars' film in 1977. 'The Force Awakens' received an enthusiastic response at the box office. It was the highest-grossing film of 2015, bringing in $936.7 million in the United States and Canada, and $1.132 billion in other countries.

Since the 2019 'Star Wars' film, Ridley has co-starred in the film 'Chaos Walking' (2021), based on the young-adult novel by Patrick Ness of the same name. Unfortunately, its success did not equal that of her debut film in 2015.
