In the Harry Potter series, what is the name of Harry's pet owl?
The Harry Potter series is about a young wizard starting out in wizard school and follows his training from a novice to an accomplished wizard.
Each first year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is allowed to bring a special pet to school. Hagrid, who was guiding Harry through Diagon Alley, says toads are old-fashioned and would cause him to be laughed at, and since he does not like cats, he takes Harry to Eeylops Owl Emporium and buys him a snowy owl. Harry names the owl Hedwig, a name he had seen in his History of Magic text.
The owl serves Harry well during his years at Hogwarts carrying messages back and forth. For instance, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione plan to get Charlie Weasley to take Hagrid's pet dragon, Norbert, to Romania to release it back into the wild, it is Hedwig who brings Charlie's response back to the Trio.

I was a hold out on reading the first book, thought it sounded rather silly, then decided to give it a go after hearing nothing but raves for almost a year. Read the whole thing in one sitting and subsequently read all the books and have seen the films. What grabbed me initially was the great narrative accompanied by the imaginative concepts and the book’s hitting on the awkwardness at trying to find ourselves and fit in that many adolescents feel. I’d say give that first book a look then see if you agree with me!

I love the closed mindedness... "I never have and never will read the books or watch the movies"... Get over yourself. I bet you would be more than a little entertained. Just because you THINK it's beneath you, you wouldn't dare read/watch something so low brow. You guys make me laugh and make me feel sorry for you at the same time. You might be surprised to find you'll like something out of your comfort zone. This doesn't just go for the Harry Potter books/movies, this is for life in general. Branch out and broaden out a bit.

I listen to audio books while driving. I listened to the entire Potter series that way. When Hedwig died I had to pull off the road because I was crying so hard.

Lindsay Fussell, I've read every book at least 5 times through. Every time a new book came out, I started with book 1 again, so I could get everything in context. What I really loved was the fact that Ms. Rowling did not miss anything in her 'parallel world', even down to the flashing scoreboard at the World Quidditch match, the same type of flashing scoreboard that we have at our hockey games. She's a fabulous writer

The only book I read was the third, because when I was 46 my mother sent it to me. I don’t know why. I liked it alright. I saw the beginning of the first movie but got bored with it.
