In “The Lord of the Rings,” how many volunteered for the Fellowship of the Ring?

After a secret council meets to determine what to do with the newly discovered ring of power, nine brave individuals volunteer to take the ring to Mt. Doom to have it destroyed.

This “Fellowship of the Ring” includes Gandalf the wizard, humans Boromir and Aragorn, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, and four hobbits, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin.

After spending years filming the franchise, almost all the actors in the fellowship got matching tattoos of the Elvish word for “nine.” The only holdout was John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli; he sent his stunt double to get the tattoo instead.
