In the USA it's 911, in the UK it's 999 - what is it in Australia?
Triple Zero (000) is the primary national emergency number in Australia. The Emergency Call Service is operated by Telstra as a condition of its telecommunications licence, and is intended only for use in life-threatening or time-critical emergencies.
Prior to 1969, Australia did not have a national number for emergency services; the police, fire and ambulance services possessed many phone numbers, one for each local unit. In 1961, the office of the Postmaster General (PMG) introduced the Triple Zero (000) number in major population centres and near the end of the 1980s extended its coverage to nationwide.

No other country uses 000. Once again, the Aussies are unique!

Julie Allen, the international number is 112, which connects you either to the local emergency in your relevant country e.g. If you were on holiday in America, 911, if in Australia, 000. It can also be called if you have no connection.
However, it is always wise to have the emergency number relevant to the country you are in, on hand.

Hard number for little fingers to dial on a rotary telephone. So hard for them to dial while playing.
Have dialled that a couple of times by accident. Work you used to di 0 to get an outside line and Tas.'s STD codes started with 00.

Guessed right only one I knew it wasn't was 666 ha ha and thought 888 unlikely knowing why we chose 999 being the easiest number to find in dark on old dial phones
