In US law enforcement agencies, what do the initials SWAT stand for?
Abbreviation SWAT stands for “Special Weapons And Tactics” and is a law enforcement unit in the USA which uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. SWAT teams deal with various situations that are beyond the capabilities of ordinary Department personnel, for example, with cases of terrorism, narcotics or other high-risk situations. The first such unit was created in 1960.
The world got to know about these units after famous series and popular movie S.W.A.T. (2003) which narrated about the work of the Los Angeles team.
