In Walt Disney's film "Cinderella" (1950), the fairy godmother is able to turn a pumpkin into a carriage. At a key point in the film, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother appears before her, insisting that Cinderella go to the ball. The Fairy Godmother magically transforms a pumpkin into a carriage, the mice into horses, Cinderella's horse, Major, into a coachman, and dog, Bruno, into a footman, before turning Cinderella's dress into a shimmering silver ball gown and her shoes into glass slippers. As Cinderella leaves for the ball, the Fairy Godmother warns her the spell will break at the stroke of midnight.

Overall the film is one where Cinderella's father unexpectedly dies and young Ella (Lily James) finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and nasty stepsisters, who reduce her to scullery maid. Despite her circumstances, she refuses to despair. An invitation to a palace ball gives Ella hope that she might reunite with the dashing stranger (Richard Madden) she met in the woods. Her stepmother does all that she can do to prevents Cinderella from going. Help arrives in the form of a kindly beggar woman (a Fairy godmother) who has a magic touch for ordinary things. The things such as a pumpkin come to the aid of Cinderella.
