It might surprise most people, that sliced bread has been in our lives for less than a century.

The person who gave the world sliced bread, which has made making sandwiches and toast much easier to perform.

An Iowa-born, Missouri-based jeweler named Otto Rohwedder had the idea of making sliced bread. In 1912 he had developed a prototype of the machine to slice bread.

Otto had many obstacles in his way to achieving his goal, 1917 his bread machine prototype and the blueprints were destroyed in a fire, which meant that he had to start again from scratch.

He also faced skepticism from bakers, who said "that factory sliced loaves would quickly go stale or fall apart.

In 1928, Otto's rebuilt "power-driven, multi-bladed bread slicer" was put into service at his friend Frank Bench's "Chillicothe Baking Company".
