In which Bond film did Gemma Arterton play intelligence operative Strawberry Fields?
Gemma Arterton (born 1986) is a British actress who portrayed the 'Bond Girl' Strawberry Fields in the 22nd 'James Bond' film 'Quantum of Solace' in 2008. For her performance, Arterton won an Empire Award for Best Newcomer.
Arterton was chosen from fifteen hundred candidates for the role of Strawberry Fields, who Arterton describes as "the thinking man's crumpet." After the death of the previous bond girl Vesper Lynd, Bond (Daniel Craig) is determined to find those who blackmailed his lover. Bond meets Strawberry Fields in Bolivia, where she works as an MI6 agent at the British consulate. Initially, she tries to overpower Bond but is eventually seduced by his charms.
As well as 'Quantum of Solace', Arterton has starred in 'Tamara Drewe' (2010), 'Clash of the Titans' (2010), 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' (2010), 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' (2013), 'The Escape' (2017), and 'Vita and Virginia' (2018). Since 2016, she has run her own production company called 'Rebel Park Productions', which focuses on creating female-led content in front of and behind the camera. In 2020, she was an executive producer for the Second World War film 'Summerland', in which she also starred.
In 2018, Arterton was awarded 'Woman of the Year' by the magazine 'Harper's Bazaar'. Her success has little to do with her role in 'Quantum of Solace'. As the film magazine 'Screen Daily' said, "the Bond girls fade into insignificance".
