The city of Tryon in North Carolina, U.S.A. was the host to the 2018 Games,

From the inaugural competition in Stockholm in 1990, this is the eighth time that the competition has been held, and only the second time that it has been held in the United States; it was also held in 2010 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The F.E.I. (Federation Equestrian International) is the organising body behind the games, and disciplines involved are Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Endurance and Vaulting, which were included in the first five editions of this equestrian competition, with Reining joined in 2002 and Para-Dressage in 2010.

The 2018 competition was also remembered as the biggest commercial airlift of horses ever undertaken in the history of horse sport with a total of 550 supremely fit equine athletes flown to the 'Tryon International Equestrian Centre' venue, where they were joined by another 270 horses coming overland to team up with their human partners from over 70 countries.

The opportunity to win national glory, 29 sets of medals, as well as qualifying opportunities for Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games were a good incentive, keeping athletes as motivated as ever.
