In Spain!!! - The Spanish dance “Jota” came to be in the 1700s and is the traditional folk dance of Aragon, Spain. It varies by region, having a characteristic form in Aragon, Catalonia, Castile, Navarre, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, La Rioja, Murcia, and Eastern Andalusia.

Being a visual representation, the jota is danced by couples and sung accompanied by castanets, and the interpreters like to wear regional costumes. It is a quick dance: it tends to have a 3/4 rhythm, although some authors maintain that the 6/8 is better adapted to the poetic and choreographic structure. In Valencia, the jota was once danced during interment ceremonies. Funerals and wakes also afford opportunities for the dance. The "Jota", for instance, is often performed watching the dead.

The “Jota de Aragon” or "Jota Aragonesa" is the oldest of the styles and corresponds with a dance as well as a song.

The Aragonese say that a pretty girl dancing the "Jota" sends an arrow into every heart by each one of her movements.
