In which film did Tim Roth play the character General Thade?
Tim Roth plays the character General Thade in the 2001 film "Planet of the Apes". The film is an American science fiction film directed by Tim Burton. Stars include: Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, and Estella Warren. It is the 6th film produced in the "Planet of the Apes" franchise. It was loosely adapted from (1) Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel of the same name and (2) the 1968 film version. It tells the story of astronaut who crash-landing on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes. The apes treat humans as slaves, but with the help of an ape named Ari, the astronaut (Leo Davidson) starts a rebellion.
In the film, Leo, an astronaut, travels through space and time to a world where apes and gorillas rule humans. Captured, he is nurtured by Ari (an ape) and hunted by General Thade, as he leads a rebel group of humans and chimpanzees in search of his downed craft. This is his only hope of escape and, ironically, it is the planet's only hope of shaking off the tyranny of the gorillas, allowing peaceful humans and chimpanzees to co-exist.
The film was produced by Richard D. Zanuck. The screenplay was provided by William Broyles Jr., Lawrence Konner, and Mark Rosenthal. Philippe Rousselot did the cinematography, and this film was edited by Chris Lebenzon and Joel Negron. The film's musical score was handled by Danny Elfman. The film got mixed reviews. Some praised the twist ending, but felt it lacked a balanced story structure.
