Alias Nick Beal, a 1949 American film noir mystery, is a movie with the retelling of the Faust myth. In this film, a politician sells his soul to the devil, named Nick Beal (Ray Milland). The film was directed by John Farrow and produced by Endre Bohem. It was written by Jonathan Latimer. The stars not only include Millard. There is Audrey Totter as Donna Allen, Thomas Mitchell as Joseph Foster, George Macready as Reverend Thomas Garfield, Fred Clark as Frankie Faulkner, Geraldine Wall as Martha Foster, and Henry O'Neill as Judge Ben Hobbs.

Joseph Foster is an honest district attorney who wants to run for governor in order to clean up the criminal underworld. He can't catch the criminal leader Frankie Faulkner no matter how hard he tries. One day a smooth talking stranger named Nick Beal visits him at a café and he makes a deal with him. Joseph begins his rise to power; he is being aided by a prostitute named Donna Allen. She was sent by Nick to seduce him. Joseph will be able to get out of his contract with the devil with the help of his loving wife Martha and his friend Reverend Thomas Garfield.

The film received good reviews for its fine acting and wily direction. Some film commentators specifically said, "Milland is outstanding as the personification of evil—a talent often obscured by his charm and early juvenile good looks."
