In which part of its body does scorpion store venom?
All known scorpion species possess venom and use it primarily to kill or paralyze their prey and eat it. In general, the venom acts very fast and allow a scorpion to catch the prey easily. However, as a general rule scorpions kill their prey violently with force if they can, as opposed to using venom. They also may attack the predators with their venom.
The venom is a mixture of compounds (neurotoxins, enzyme inhibitors, etc.) They all cause different effects and are also aimed on different creatures to poison. Each compound is made and stored in a pair of glandular sacs. A scorpion itself chooses an amount of poison to release. Of the 1,000+ known species of scorpion, only 25 have venom that is deadly to humans; most of those belong to the family Buthidae.
