The Lorelei (Loreley in German) is a 132 m (433 ft) high steep slate rock on the right bank of the river Rhine Gorge at Sankt Goarshaunsen in Germany. St.Goarshausen is a town located within the Nassau Nature Park. The Rhine Gorge is UNESCO world heritage site.

A tanker or barge carrying 2,400 tons of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) was capsized on 13 January, 2011, on Rhine river near the Lorelei rock, blocking traffic on one of the Europe's busiest waterways.This tanker run through Germany from Switzerland to the north sea.

The 110 meter long tanker is currently stranded near the town of St.Goarshausen, home to well-known Lorelei rock, which marks narrowest of the Rhine. The tanker was on its way from Ludwigshafen to Aneweep.
