In World War I, which country suffered the greatest number of deaths (military and civilian)?
For some countries with a very large number of casualties only a broad range is available for the numbers of deaths during the First World War. This adds to the poignancy of the message to be drawn from the available facts.
For the four countries mentioned here the totals are as follows:
Russia: from 2,940,000 to 3,664,369
Germany: 2,561,720
France: from 1,697,000 to 1,737,800
The USA: 117,498

The Russian genocide of its people during the period 1917/18 has nothing to do with WW1, Germany is the "winner" in the death count wherein lies the lesson which Japan later learned - aggression is a two edged sword.
