Mary Keim The 4 dramatic roles I mentioned were not "stupid slapstick" nor were they overacted. He received critical acclaim for his performances in these roles, yet was not acknowledged by the Academy because of personality conflicts. The fact that he has been ignored has little to do with whether or not he turned in notable performances. If you don't play the game properly in Hollywood, you get boxed out. It is a closed, highly political industry.

While his comedies may not appeal to you, he turned in many other serious dramatic performances. It is fairly well known that he is not greatly loved in Hollywood and the fact that he was never nominated for his wonderfully nuanced, Oscar worthy performances in films such as 'Man on the Moon', 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', 'The Truman Show', or 'I Love Phillip Morris' bears that out.

He is so talented, not everybody can improvised the way he does must of the movies scripts are improvisation from his mind...It is sad that in the show business or movie industry if an actor or actress is not liked by the big shots their never make it where they deserved to be!!! Favorite movie of Carrey's is: The Majestic. Not a comedy but he was so good in it. I can watch it over and over!

In my opinion, one of the two unfunniest comedians I have ever come across (the other being Gervais). Having said that, I thought his portrayal of Andy Kaufman in Man On The Moon was sublime
