Magnets stick to things which contain which metal?
A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, steel, nickel, cobalt, etc. and attracts or repels other magnets.
Ancient people learned about magnetism from lodestones (or magnetite) which are naturally magnetized pieces of iron ore. The word magnet was adopted in Middle English from Latin magnetum "lodestone", ultimately from Greek μαγνῆτις (magnētis) meaning "from Magnesia", a place in Anatolia where lodestones were found (today Manisa in modern-day Turkey).

Angeles Dembowski, it depends on if it is face centered or body centered crystalline structure as to whether stainless steel is attracted by a magnet. One is one is not.

They don’t ‘stick’’ to anything. There is a force of attraction.

Stainless steel is not magnetic yet is principally composed of iron.

Char, Like you, I had a few things from my Grandma that went missing. Not magnetic dogs. But little turtle statues, with moving heads, and a lot of her 'touristy' salt & pepper shakers. Absolutely beautiful things!

That's why I got that wrong the ones I had loved metal clips ..my Gran has two little dogs on black the other white and I used to play with them when she ler me. They did repel yet stick to each other even with a piece of cardboard between them.. Somebody stole my bag and I never saw any like them again...my inheritance from my Gran but I loved them
