The main and end title theme song for "The Jackie Gleason Show" was "Melancholy Serenade". It was at one time verified as the Gleason Show theme song in the February 19, 1954 "TV Guide" article on page 21 titled "What's The Name of That Theme Song?".

Although Gleason could not read music, arranger Pete King worked with Gleason to transcribe his melodies, add harmony that Gleason approved, and arrange the music for the show's orchestra. Lyrics were added later by George "Duke" Enston. The sheet music version was published at that time.

Gleason's show, in fact, became one of the classics of TV. It was broadcast live from New York from 1952 - 1966. The show moved to Miami Beach for the remainder of its run.
