Micronesia is a region in Oceania, western Pacific Ocean, that includes approximately 2100 islands, with a total land area over 1,000 square miles. Total area of all Micronesian islands is near the size of USA's smallest state, Rhode Island. But the total ocean surface area within the perimeter of the islands is about 2,900,000 square miles. That is near 98% of 49 USA states, excluding Alaska.
There are 3 main island groups in Micronesia:
The Caroline Islands (Federated States of Micronesia and Palau)
The Mariana Islands (USA Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands)
The Marshall Islands
