More languages are spoken in New York City than any other city in the world
New York City is one of the largest cities in the world and holds up to 40% of New York's population. The city proper holds more than 8.4 million people and about 23.4 million live in the greater metro area.
New York's history is defined by the droves of immigrants that came to the United States through Ellis Island, and is still the leading metropolitan gateway for legal immigrants admitted into the United States.
There are as many as 800 languages spoken there, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world! English is still the most spoken language, though there are areas in which up to 25 percent of the people living there don't speak English primarily.

Attention Jim Ellett ... where on Earth did you get your information from ? Papua Niugini (PNG) is a country ... It started off as The Territory of Papua and New Guinea ... Papua came under the tutelage of Australia and New Guinea was a United Nations Protectorate. Various members of my family (including myself) lived there from 1953 to 1972. The official languages are Tok Pisin, Hiri Motu and English but there are around 800 dialects spoken throughout the country. So, next time you make a statement, check your facts first ! My PNG friends would be horrified by your statement. It's a bit like saying that France is a city in Europe or that the U.S.A is a city in North America.

I would question this assumption The population of London is greater than New York I have no evidence re how many languages but having worked in London visiting homes the Indian population alone have several languages amongst their people
How did this conclusion re language become fact ?
