Pontiac GTO is a famous automobile produced by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974. It's considered one of the best high-performance automobiles of all time. A 1965 GTO, one of the most popular GTO versions, is in the picture. This automobile is a participant of many important car shows, and many car collectors just adore this model.

This very car was a true revolution for the company, as with the output of this model, Pontiac really began to distinguish the GTOs from other models, like the well-known hood scoop(s) that would follow the GTO throughout its production years. With the 1965 model Pontiac used stacked headlights for the first time.

I graduated from high school in 1966. I owned a '66 GTO hard top, gun metal grey on black leather, 389 cii. 3 dueces & an a close 4 speed (3.55 rear end). In those days you went to the dealership and made out a build sheet ordering what you wanted and didn't want. It was about $3,500. out the door. I sold My '55 Chevy to buy the "goat". I'd sell my soul for either one today. Before anyone says " I had one too". Tell me where the ashtray was.

Jean Lugg, the '64 GTO did not have stacked headlights like '65, '66,and '67. My father is a collector so I know the GTO well. His favorite is the '66. He calls it the first "real GTO" as it was the first year it was its own model and not just an option on the LeMans.

Can I clarify “famous in America”! We never had Pontiacs in Australia in the 60’s let alone any other decade. Pure guess but did get it right!
