Nevada is one of the 50 states of the US. What does Nevada mean in Spanish?

Nevada is Spanish for "snow-clad" or "covered in snow". Spanish sailors gave the name Sierra Nevada to the vast and grand mountain range, when they saw it from out at sea for the first time. Sierra Nevada amazed European sailors, as it was covered in snow despite the dry desert climate of the surroundings. People also began to call the territory around the range Sierra Nevada, and later the name was shortened to just Nevada. That's how the state name emerged.

Nevada is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern regions of the United States of America. Nevada's capital is Carson City. The state is also often called the "Silver State", as it has always been known for its huge silver mines. Silver still remains an important part of Nevada's economy.
