On the U.S. sitcom "Bewitched", what was the name of the nosy female neighbor?
The name of Darrin and Samantha's nosy female neighbor, on the 1964–1972 U.S. sitcom "Bewitched" is Gladys Kravitz. She is a neighbor who resides on Morning Glory Circle. She and her husband Abner live across the street from the Stephens.
The actress Alice Pearce (October 1917 - March 1966) played comedic supporting roles in several big-screen films before she got cast as Gladys in "Bewitched". In her role, if she didn't understand some oral statements which have been made or some information that had been posted, she would take it upon herself to make wild assumptions about the statements or posted items. This would most often lead to very funny personal situations.
On the show, the nosiness that Gladys showed would often stem from something that was going on in her or her husband's life. She would perhaps also be curious about something that was going on with her neighbors, especially the Stephens. In addition, she could be nosy about some kids in the neighborhood, or about guests, or about work being done to homes or yards of other property owners.
Alice Pearce was born in New York, New York; she died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. She was 48 years old at her death. Alice was diagnosed with terminal cancer before "Bewitched" started in 1964, a fact which the actress hid from the producers. Towards the end of the show's second season, Pearce passed away from ovarian cancer. Gladys was recast, with Sandra Gould taking Pearce's place.
