March 1st, 1975 was called 'C' day, the day that colour television transmission began in Australia. Midnight saw the black and white picture change over to colour during transmission of the show that was on at the time and it was here to stay!

On the 15th February, 1972 then Prime Minister, William McMahon announced that colour television was coming to Australia and that transmission would commence on the 1st March, 1975. Advertisements for colour TV sets from Sanyo, Panasonic Sony, Rank and Sharp began to appear during the lead up to 'C' Day.

Buying a Colour TV cost around $1000 – $1300 in the 70s, which is the same as $8250 – $10,700 in today’s prices.
