Sicily belongs to which country?

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the 20 regions of Italy. The Strait of Messina divides it from the region of Calabria in Southern Italy. It is one of the five Italian autonomous regions and is officially referred to as Regione Siciliana. The region has 5 million inhabitants. Its capital city is Palermo.

Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, and one of the most active in the world, currently 3,357 m (11,014 ft) high. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.

We've been to Sicily. We saw Catania and my husband climbed a bit of Mount Etna We then went by train to Taormina and in the distance we could see a bit of smoke from Etna but luckily when he climbed with a group it was a very calm day on the mountain Sicily is very beautiful Bonnie
