In 1919 Peter Halajian (1864 – 1927) was an Armenian-American candy manufacturer in the New Haven, Connecticut area. He sold homemade sweets door-to-door, including Mounds Candy Bars. It wasn’t until 1948 when consumer demand for chocolate led to the creation of Almond Joy Candy Bars.

The iconic jingle, “Sometimes you feel like a nut, Sometimes you don’t,” was written by an American composer, songwriter, arranger, pianist, and conductor Leon Carr (June 10, 1910 – March 27, 1976) in 1970 who is best known for his marketing jingles used in advertisements for Chevrolet ("See the U.S.A. In Your Chevrolet"), the "Bert the Turtle" theme song for the nuclear public education awareness film "Duck and Cover" (1951), and, of course, for Almond Joy candy ("Sometimes you feel like a nut...").

The Almond Joy jingle is as follows:

Sometimes you feel like a nut - Sometimes you don't - Almond Joy's got nuts - Mounds don't - Almond Joy's got rich milk chocolate - Coconut and munchie nuts too

- Mounds got deep dark chocolate - Chewey coconut ooh - Sometimes you feel like a nut - Yeah Yeah Yeah - Sometimes you don't - Oooh oooh - Almond Joy's got nuts - Mounds don't - Peter Paul Almond Joy's got nuts - Peter Paul Mounds don't

Because... Sometimes you feel like a nut - Sometimes you don't.
